Winter Barra Biting
« on: August 25, 2011, 05:11:16 PM »
Had a mid week work committment in Townsville second week of August - so thought I'd stay through the weekend and check out a few old barra haunts - while mid winter aint always an easy time to go looking for freshwater barra - some careful selection of times and sites proved fruitful i.e. shallow margins of deep lagoons at days end when water had been warmed. Also checked out a few rustwater haunts (tidal channels in salt couch flats) plus got introduced to a new one (shallow reef flat) by a mate who I'd previously provided new site introductions to. All in all was a very productive barra sesh!  The last few years of big wet seasons has really given barra recruitment a big shot in the arm and the fishing is the best its been for years - look forward to getting back up there in the warmer months when they're 'really' biting !

Ditto mate, seems a very long shot for me since I changed jobs... no more travelling the country for work. Will have to pay for my own trips in my own time now.....  :'(
