Wivenhoe water release
« on: May 01, 2015, 06:54:16 PM »
They will be releasing water at 8.00 pm tonight.  Here's hoping for a good flush to get rid of the weed rafts.

I fish because the little voices in my head tell me to.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any flow of note coming down the Lockyer. That's where the majority of the water lettuce is, unless it gets a flush it will continue to feed the lettuce down the Brisbane.

A release from BigW should at least clear the river of most of it until the warm weather returns. Better than nothing I suppose.

Some pictures from Shines rd Wivenhoe Pocket from this morning (2nd of May 2015). At the time BigW only had the one gate open.

The Lockyer Creek junction.

Could have done with a raincoat at the spillway.

O'reillys Weir, Lockyer Creek.

I didn't stop for pics upstream of Pointings bridge on the Lockyer, but the cramming of water lettuce from further upstream has to be seen to be believed, wow thick!

Went back up to the spillway late this arvo and could see wivy had 3 gates open by then.

Cheers,
Dave.

Wow, Lockyer Creek - it's just one big sh!t chute that pollutes the Brisbane river isn't it. The colour of that water - yuck! No wonder the water lettuce is rampant. The amount of farm runoff that goes into that creek would grow anything....
