Coolmunda Dam golden perch
« on: January 01, 2012, 09:49:27 PM »
Gday
just got back from a camping trip out at Coolmunda Dam, great looking dam with heaps of timber to play in chasing goldens and oh so hoped for a big cod  :D but they decided to play the tough game and did not make an appearance for me this trip.  :'(
The good thing was a few goldens decided to play the game on the vibes, we explored all over the dam marking the creek bed and any likely looking snags or rocky out crops down deep on the gps and  just getting to know the dam.
we managed a fair few goldens and my mate managed a few good ones over 50 and i was stuck catching lil chunky goldens  :-[
was great fun with the free bush camping by the shoreline and the kids had a ball out there.. look forward to going out again soon  :)

Thanks for the report Wes, some good looking & well colored golden perch there.  :youbeauty

Q- Did you camp on the southern side of the wall or close to the highway? I was told the southern bush camping area was closed.

Shame on Sunwater for closing access to the spillway picnic area.  >:(

most of the southern section is now private but there is still a decent chunk of land still available to camp on, it is pretty much a third of what use to be open to public. we gained access by following the road past the spillway and turn left at the t intersection then 100mtrs turn left again and this is the entry to what is still open. we wondered about the highway side but did not see any evidence of camping there. I wanted to check the spillway out but the amount of signs warning that no public access stopped me from exploring, even the greenup weir reserve was closed to the public for rejuvenation . i was looking forward to fishing the brook along this stretch but could not find access points any where , only access to the brook i found was elizabeth street in inglewood its self, a yak trip will be planned for this area soon..here is a few pics from the shoreline of where we camped..
cheers
wes

Nice report. Im guessing you were casting vibess and what breed of vibe if ya dont mind telling? A mate had some luck out there lately while casting for yellas. His brother caught a a good cod (i think they guessed it around 25 pound) and after landing and releasing him he quickly cast at the same tree and hooked a big cod. He eventually landed him and i think he went over a metre. He was caught on a tn60 jackall i think. Unreal fish.

Congrats on the good fish.

Thanks mate. Might have to try a few.

Yer jason and Kerrys fish were unreal. Think Jason told me he was only using 14lb line too so really good effort to land it.
