With the introduction of the changes to the SIP scheme the Government is going to change the method of distribution of the available funds.
Under the previous method there was a formula used to determine how much each stocking group received funding.
This was partly determined by the acreage of the dam when at full supply level plus anglers when applying for their permit were able to nominate which dams were to receive part of their contribution.
With the new permit system anglers are no longer able to nominate their preference.
There are now an additional 31 waters where anglers are required to poses a SIP permit.
Whilst I think that the additional waters will generate the sale of some additional permits and the fact that spouses are now required to have their own permit it would appear to me that it is good news for stocking groups that will now receive new funding stocking groups that were under the previous scheme possibly will receive a reduction in their income.
The government is in the process of reviewing the method of allocating funds and has asked all stocking groups to participate in the review.

If you are a member of a stocking assn give them some feedback and ensure that they participate in the workshops .

To be brutally honest, Lake Wivenhoe and Lake Somerset, the two most popular fishing destinations in the State have always been understocked due to the area cap placed on impoundments by the previous SIP distribution rules. With the changes it seems both of these dams will receive even less funding than they have been and the fisheries can only deteriorate. It's a little like robbing the rich to give to the poor until the rich revolt.

It will be interesting on what formula will be proposed.
For example Gil Weir on Dogwood Creek at miles.
What is the surface area?
How many persons fish there . A few locals and grey nomads who use it as a freecamp.
How many new permits will it generate?

Hopefully should soon hear something re the convening of the working party. Fisheries have been busy looking after the white spot outbreak and have been unable to devote any resources towards the working party.

Doesn't the SIP actually fund a person to look after SIP business? If so, what is this person doing mucking around with Commercial Prawn Farms on the Logan. By our calculations, Somerset and Wivenhoe need to receive approximately 35% additional funding to break even with this new system. That's a bit over $40,000.00.

We must remember how all this started.
When cando killed off the RFEP and gutted the fisheries department.
All the puddles added to the SIP recently would still be happy enough with their $5k ish grants.

Any suggestions what would be a fair and equitable method of distribution of monies?
I think that everyone seems to agree that all previous sip dams will receive less unless the government is prepared to waive its administration levy.
