Title: Turn left here, then follow the arrow
Post by: WayneD on August 18, 2013, 08:22:19 PM
This was the directions I got on a text with a picture of a road sign with WD on it (photo1). Then there was a track that split into two and there was an arrow made out of sticks on the path I had to take (photo2). Right I guess this is it then I said to Steve as we pulled up by the riverside.

We unloaded, set up the swags and then jumped on the water for a few hours fishing. It didn't take long to get the first fish on the end of the line but unfortunately for me it managed a self release a few seconds after hookup. Steve was fluff chucking in the hope of getting his first cod. He headed towards a nice snag and with a few waves of his wand his fly landed perfectly next to the snag. A few strips in (and just as I asked him if he'd caught a cod on fly) and a cod snaffles his fly and the fight was on (photo3). The fish ended up getting back under a log and the fight stalemated. I paddled in to see if I could coax him out which I managed to do but then with a shake of the head he spat the hook and I watched it swim off.

At 5:30 we headed back to camp just in time to start up the fire before the other guys turned up. With a few laughs, a slide show of Steve's Mediterranean trip and a quick paddle for me in my undies (as I didn't want to get my jeans wet), during which I missed two more fish on my chatterbait. and then it was off to bed with the smell of cow sh!t fresh in the air.

Next morning saw us lazily out of bed and on the water around 7:30ish. Not much action happening as a change had moved through and rain was forecast. StevenM was first on the board not too far into the day, closely followed by Bushwacker Steve as we were portaging through some fast flowing water (photo 4,5,6,7). Then to everyone's surprise Jeff caught one (photo8) around about the time the rain started to fall. From there it all went to sh!t. Rain, wind, shivering and chattering meant Little Steve and I pulled the pin at 11am, but not before we watched Dave catch a couple and Jeff land a second for the trip.

Home before 4pm after a feed of KFC at Warwick. In bed by 4pm and I didn't wake up until 6am, guess I was tired!

Last two pics are essential kayaking food and Cheryl...

I find that the most simple directions are often the best and looks like they worked.

The day did not get much better after you two turned around. It continued to rain and it just got real cold. I was a oversized vibrator at one stage I was shivering so much.

No more fish for me, I couldn't feel my hands, they were all shrivelled and I was flat out holding my rod. Was so glad to get back to the car and change into some warm clothes.

And for anyone trying to find the spot, well I removed the arrow and moved the guide post about 167.23km's

Thanks for the laughs once again fella's

Another triumph for the Codfathers. I have to know something, was the subject of the last pic the result of eating the subject of the previous one?
