Title: Blades?
Post by: Muzfox on May 27, 2013, 01:10:19 PM
Anyone making their own blade type lures? Been looking around the net a bit, there is one good youtube vid that shows some custom ones using split shot as the weight! Seemed to work alright :)

Others I've seen have moulds etc for pouring the lead onto blanks.

Starting cheap/very low cost here, just to have a play around. I've got a rather nice supply of polycarbonate I can get my hands on (work for Dotmar Engineering Plastics) and was thinking of making my own Ghost Blade type lures.

Bit stuck on the lead/weight part tho, not sure where to source that.

Also thinking of playing with some polyurethane, we cast/mould that here, could be interesting, however it's pretty dense and will sink so have to think of what type of lure to work with and hook/line attachments etc would probably have to be through the lure, PU will tear too easily.

Anyway, thoughts ideas etc all welcome, could be a nice little project for the weekends I can't make it out.

I'll bet you get some PM's now that the other lure makers know where you work......

Playing with 1.5mm polycarb. Have to work out a better way to cut, scissors at home too hard lol. First draught, seeing what's involved, what results I get. Holes and hooks tomorrow night and swim test in the pool on the weekend. If working well will post a vid, if not will report back and try again :)
