Shines Rd Report
« on: September 07, 2012, 07:30:17 PM »
Well I finally got a chance to fish Shines Rd yesterday, we arrived fairly late (11ish) as I had to do the school and wifey drop off first  ::)
Now I know what you guys mean about heart attack hill !  Good thing we are fairly fit youngsters not like Basser  :P  Still a tough bloody climb back out which I'm happy not to do again for a while. While my mate Glen was getting some gear in his yak I pushed off and made my way towards Lockyer creek.  About 50 mtrs away from the launch spot down the right side I made my first cast with a Kietech paddle tail plastic on a 1/8oz head, I let it hit the bottom and a couple of hops and I was on! It wasn't a unicorn but gave me a good run around.  Glen finally made it up to me after having a chat to StevenM who had strolled down for a look during his break.  A couple of quick pics and we were off again. After I had plenty more casts for nothing Glen decided to troll a few lures as he hadn't had a hit while casting.  I'm not big into trolling so I kept on casting away for nothing more than a few nudges and half hearted runs. Glen ended up with 3 bass on the troll and a very solid Yella.  The wind was up a fair bit and made it tough to stay in one spot on the way up to Lockyer creek and it was a bitch on the way back into a headwind of at least 15 knots in some spots.   All in all a nice day on the water, it's been ages since I was in a yak for a long period of time, my hats off to you guys who have long sessions on the water yak fishing, my legs were pretty sore last night, but that may have also been the dreaded Shines Hill!  :D
