Muzza meets Mat

I was fortunate enough to be doing some work on a property on the Gwydir River earlier this week. I managed to squeeze in a couple of short 20 - 30 minute fishing sessions at a couple of spots along the river, flicking a spinnerbait from the bank.

On Monday afternoon I managed to catch this Murray Cod just before dark. It was a good way to wrap up the day. He went 47cm (although he looks a little longer in the picture) and was a nice way to christen the truth mat. I caught him on a spinnerbait I had made, so was pretty chuffed. I bought a couple of kits which made 20 spinnerbaits. This cod is the first fish I have caught on any of them so far. He didn't hang around to celebrate, tearing off back to his snag!

This is a beautiful stretch of river. I'd love to get there again and explore it from the kayak over a couple of days.
