I just picked up my first Generation Black rod, and for around $150.00 it is very good value for money, and they are fitted with Fuji Alconite guides. I got the Beefstik, which is a 6' Heavy action baitcaster rated to 9kg. I got this one to use in PNG, and also to have in the boat as a spare "visitors" big Barra rod at Awoonga. The build quality and feel of the blank certainly doesn't feel like a cheap rod. The Generation Black range should cover most angling requirements, and I can see the Finezza being a great Bass rod. The Cranky should be a good Cod/Barra baitcaster as well. Some of the other model names, like Itchy Twitchy, Drunknmonkey and Wild Weasel tell us that Brad is still naming the Daiwa Australian rods. For the Threadline Barra guys, the Swamp Donkey should be just the ticket. I'm sure Charlton's at Redbank will be stocking them, if not, they should be, and they'll be able to order them in for you. These rods should be a big seller for Daiwa.

Yeah Charltons do have a few
Gave had a look and as you say, very good build and quaility for the money.
Some of the guides are micro jobs and not sure if they would fit the bill for every one

So an issue for 50lb leader knots?

The Beefstik and Cranky don't have micro guides. I'm not sure which models do have them as I haven't seen the full range. As these have been designed for Australia, I doubt that any of the heavier rods have micros.

I just got one of the oddly named "Bullup" gen black rods. It's a 3pce travel rod and it has larger diameter guides. I my Curado E5 on it with 30lb Suffix 832 and a 50lb leader and it casts really well. I cast lures in the 18 to 22gram weights easily. At 6ft long it's a nice stick.

I picked up a three piece Deep striker from Charltons this afternoon. Heading to Thailand this Friday & have a full day of chasing Snakehead & Jungle Perch in a lake about an hour out of Chang Mai. Hope it gets tested to the limit.

I'll look forward to hearing how it goes for you there mate. I'd seen footage on those big ponds they have with all sorts of catfish and other noxious looking things, but the Snakehead would be interesting.

Picked up a "Pinster" this morning from Charltons. Very good looking and balanced rod for the money. Will be testing it out this weekend flicking some small hard bodies and soft plastics
