Wivenhoe arvo run...
« on: July 22, 2013, 09:38:42 AM »
I bought a couple of new 120 AH deep cycle batteries  from Stones Corner Marine last week so I thought I better give them a test run in the tinnie. Did a late arvo run to Wivenhoe yesterday with Flic.

Ran the sounder out to the Horse Paddock for a couple of passes, a few fish showed up but no big schools found, noting that 2 passes doesn't constitue much of a look.
Went to Dead Tree Point, again a few fish sitting off the small submerged cliff face there and a couple among the rocks (probably yellas).
Spun back around and ran for Brad's Point. Between the Horse Paddock and Brad's point the number of fish showing tended to increase with probably the best shows for the arvo were found in that area.
Flic tied on a Horsey Mini Boggle Eye while I chucked on some old thing I can't remember it's name, is something like a Cobra or Blitz Baga.

Picture below shows Flic with a nice little bass taken on the Horsey.

Nice quick session on the lake. Was mostly a glass out with just a slight breeze kicking up occasionally.
Water quality is looking pretty good now.
There's a thermocline at 23 - 26 feet, almost all fish seen were from 23 down to 39 feet with the odd one deeper.

Aren't new batteries great, ran the minn kota flat stick for a few hours and the first one was still going when we got back.
Last pic was taken by Don (motorbike man) who is often out at Wivenhoe taking photos on a weekend (Thanks Don). I still marvel at how you can pick up 30% more speed from an electric powered tinnie by standing up bow. Increased from 3.9km/h to 5.5km/h just by moving up the nose.

Don the Smilie Face Motorbike Man.  Seems to be there every Sunday.  What a bloody crime that he has to pay $50 a year for the experience.
Then again he may see the $50 as well spent to provide the serenity he has.

Sounds like a great arvo Fitz.

That it has, was going to give you a holler for a bridge to bridge run, but needed to spent a bit of time of time with Flic away from phones, crowds and email. Wivenhoe is the perfect place.

We're all systems go for this weekend by the way....it's gonna be chilly by the look of it...

Good to see Fitzy, I beginning to think you had your bum glued to a kayak.

It's not hard at all to believe the speed difference .... Unless you are simple. Pretty basic physics really . Definatley don't send that one to myth busters . Ha ha
