Wivenhoe Dam water release

http://www.sweetwaterfishing.com.au/Forum/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view&id=219

Video of flood water being released from the Wivenhoe Dam into the Brisbane River. SE Qld
Also shown is some footage from access points down stream eg, Lowood Bend, Twin Bridges, Savages Crossing and Burtons Bridge.
This will be the biggest restocking of fish into the Brisbane River in a decade. As in the last flood water release from Wivenhoe in the summer of 1999 / 2000, the will be a Bass fishing turkey shoot down stream in the weeks, months and years to come.

Not so long ago that would have been almost unimaginable. Putting you on the spot now Fitzy. How do you feel about that event on a personal level? It must be at least a bit distressing to know that some of your and the stocking assoc.'s excellent and bloody hard work has been flushed like a toilet. Then again the river gets a good flush and like you say is restocked for a long time to come. So many pluses and minuses I guess. Sadly Mt Crosby will prevent any real long term benefits. Then there is the free for all meat market that will also be a spin off. While a big outpour like that has a WOW! factor I have no doubt you will have mixed emotions about it all.
Cheers John.

Ps I spose if it had happened a few months ago when nature would have been sending a lot of those fish toward the wall it would have been an even bigger loss.

G'Day John,

It doesn't stress me at all. We stock fish into Lake Wivenhoe every year. Some will go down with the flow, so be it, the river get's the best restocking that its had since the last Wivenhoe release.
Not all of the bass went down in 99/2000 & that was aLOT bigger release than this one is going to be. This time only one gate is partly open. Last time there were multiple gates open.

Overall, if water is flowing out of Wivenhoe, then it means we've got plenty of water & that is cause to be pretty damn happy. The alternative is worrying.....

Cheers,

fitzy..

Just makes room for more fish  :youbeauty

Besides, if this doesn't happen occasionally the "I only catch wild bass" brigade wouldn't have anything to fish for!  ;D
