Hinze Dam Hints.
« on: February 01, 2012, 07:29:29 AM »
Well the upgraded Hinze Dam has finally started to fill. The water capacity has risen from 49% to 79% in a short time.
The latest report puts the water 4.6m below the new spillway so it is going to be a new ball game fishing there.
I got an email from GoFishing giving hints but they have copyrighted it so I cannot publish but they do have the article on their website.

Bit of a blurb about lures that they probably sell and I reckon it will be hard to find any submerged grassy banks as very little timber was cleared and what was cleared was mulched and spread over the ground to stop erosion so there is no grass there.
At least the new ramps will be a lot more user friendly unless you are launching a heavy yak or canoe by yourself.
Cheers
Ray

As far as a fishing report goes, that (from Gocamping) seems to be very, very generic.  It doesn't actually say that they've been there or caught anything, but they mention all the fish stocked and give a run down on most of the lures they stock.  I suppose it's the fishing report they give when they haven't been fishing.

One thing is that it will become the next redclaw hotspot with all the submerged vegetation. Give it around 3 months.
Reckon that their water treatment plant will be working hard when all the vegetation starts to rot down. Normally the Hinze has very clear water and you can see the fish 10 to 15 feet down.
Will have to do a trip down there and check it out when i get my ute back.

I saw some interesting photos on one of the kayak sites showing the recently submerged trees and shrubbery (can't help thinking of Monty Python when that word is used ;D) up the end near the Eucalypt farm and sounds like there will be some new structure as well as some lost to the depths. Must get down there one day.Pat.

Further to what Pat said above.

Here is the well known gum tree at Ragsies Reach in the eastern arm.

In the very close image I had 10.5m of water under the kayak when only about 5m from the tree trunk.

Also pulling 2 yaks to the top of the ramp to flat ground.
