Title: North Queensland Trip of a Lifetime!

G'day all,

Due to being very busy getting back from our trip north and hitting the ground running, I have unfortunately not been able to place up a report until now. The destination was North Queenslands Barra impoundments chasing them from the boat and the yak. Since the floods of 2010, a lot of reports from Barra impoundments have been reduced. Hopfully this will get the juices flowing again for those inclined to do the extra yards and up their gear to chase some of these iconic Australian fish.

PB's were smashed and continued to be smashed while we were there. Capture rates were also very good, we actually lost count of the fish caught. The Kayak was deployed to which was an experience I'll never forget, where I found myself face to face to a slab of a Barramundi at water level within 2 metres of the yak jumping trying to dislodge the lure which measured 121cm and my new PB. This particular fish was one of four I caught in a period of 40 minutes, all from my kayak.

Everyone caught fish including my Mum who was a Barra virgin, however it was my Dad, John, who was living the dream. The last night we were there, I sent him out on his own in the yak when I thought the bight period would be on. He landed 4 Barra over 1 metre, 3 of which exceeded 110cm. That same night my eldest boy also caught his PB from the yak which measured 120cm to which he needed help to net. I wasn't going to leave his side as I was worried about his safety.

When we first arrived water temps were up and the Barra were on fire, two days later and the weather change conciderably as the water temp's plumited in the 23's where tactics changed.

Fantastic to see you getting in to them.
Your going to remember that trip for a long long time Dave.
