Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has confirmed that work on the Chaffey Dam safety upgrade and augmentation is continuing on schedule, despite the water level rising to 52% with recent rain.

Mr Anderson said the various sections of the new Bowling Alley Point Bridge is complete, and associated roadworks are nearing completion.

“The new high water level has meant the Tamworth-Nundle Road has been raised about 10 metres to align with the new bridge.

“Works will be undertaken at Bowling Alley Recreational Reserve to ensure that recreational activities are not disadvantaged.

“Preparations for pouring of the new concrete section to raise the morning glory spillway are underway.

“The first layer of wall panels has been installed as part of the process to raise the dam wall eight metres in total” Mr Anderson said.

WaterNSW has confirmed works are scheduled for completion mid-2016.

The $18 million dam safety upgrade component of the works is funded by the NSW Government.

The $31.781 million augmentation component of the works is funded by the Australian Government’s National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns ($18.145 million), the NSW Government ($9.668 million) and Tamworth Regional Council ($3.968 million).
