Greens Lake Land and On Water Management Plan released
Wednesday 5 November, 2014 - Goulburn Murray Water

Maintaining Greens Lake as a safe recreational asset for the community, while performing its role as an off-stream storage is just one of the objectives of Goulburn-Murray Water's Land and On-water Management Plan released this week.

GMW Customer Service Manager Rochester Paul Cox said the plan provided a framework for public access management and recreational use of the storage, which is near Corop and forms part of GMW's irrigation network.

"It has identified important social, economic and environmental issues and developed a series of actions to address these issues during the next five years," Mr Cox said.

"Our aim is to protect the long-term quality of the water resource for local and downstream users."

Mr Cox said recreation and tourism management formed a major part of the plan because it was important to ensure these activities were balanced with the lake's primary role as an irrigation water supply storage.

"The consultation process identified that a number of community members believe the lake plays an important role in providing recreational and tourism benefits to the local area," he said.

GMW would now like to call for expressions of interest to become a member of the Greens Lake Community Reference Group to guide the plan's implementation.

"The group will play an important role in enabling the local community and various user groups to have ongoing input into the implementation of the actions identified in the plan,'' Mr Cox said.

Anyone interested in joining the group is urged to email RochesterCampaspeWSC@g-mwater.com.au or contact Paul Cox on 5484 7405.

Expressions of Interest close November 21, 2014.

Hard copies are available at the GMW Rochester Customer Service Centre or the Corop General Store.
