Draft Development Plan for Northern Territory Recreational Fishing Open for Comment

15 March 2012

The Department of Resources (DoR) reminds anglers they have until the 11th of April to provide comment on the recently released Draft Development Plan for Recreational Fishing.

Minister for Fisheries Kon Vatskalis announced the development plan for recreational fishing at the AFANT AGM on the weekend.

"The plan identifies the key strategic issues facing recreational fishing over the next decade and proposes a broad range of strategies and actions to ensure we maintain and enhance the quality of our fisheries and recreational fishing opportunities" Executive Director of Fisheries Mr Ian Curnow said.

"The Development Plan addresses matters such as collection of data on recreational fishing, targeted management of fishing hotspots, fishing access and enhanced community awareness programs to increase community stewardship of our resource".

The draft plan was compiled by a community based working group which included AFANT and representatives from regional areas across the Territory.

"The working group that put the plan together have done a great job and I thank them for their time and effort" Mr Curnow said.

A copy of the Draft Development Plan for Recreational Fishing is available on the Department of Resources website, along with a link on how to submit comments: http://www.nt.gov.au/d/Fisheries/

The public, industry groups, government and non-government organisations are invited to provide written comments on the proposals raised in this Draft.

Comments close COB Wednesday 11th of April 2012.

Goodness gracious actually liaising with a fishing organization.
Reads very good maybe we will have a new fisheries minister in Qld who could follow suit.
Typical short time frame for people to really study and respond but at least they are doing something proactive.
 Cheers
Ray
