Title: Brisbane Fly Fishing options

Hi Everyone,

I am new to Brisbane, and I am chasing some locations to go land based fly fishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!  :)

PS. are there any bass guides for the Brisbane river or local dams?

Twin Bridges at Fernvale and then the Lowood Bends.  You'll have to wait until the water releases stop though.  Way too much flow at the moment.

I use to chase bass with the wand years ago in the dams. I use to only fish sinking line but. Good old bass vampire fly was all i nearly ever used. As mentioned brissy river would be a good start and close to bris. Finding a nice bank to use might be hard part. I use to get a few off the banks with fly at cressbrook dam but havn tried there in years with it. Head up to the barra park at bli bli for a day as that be awsome fun. Make up a pellet style fly, berley them up and land the fly in the middle, would be awsome. :youbeauty

You really are a bit limited chasing bass landbased on fly anywhere really. A kayak opens up tons more territory to fish. Before the rain came in I was having a bit of success using surface flies (poppers,gurglers and cicada imitations) early morning and night fishing then bucktail bass vampires after the light increased dropping the fly down the face of lily pads and weed beds. As been said the waters will have to clear and drop in most places to be fishable. Cheers Pat.

Don't worry Luke, there are plenty of land bases options.  I live at Fernvale so I've seen most of them.  Take a drive to Twin Bridges when they finish releasing water.  Both sides of the river are walkable for a little ways there, then go upstream to Lowood Bends, just near the 80k sign, there is plenty of walkable bank there too.  Don't worry too much about having a Bass Vampire fly, they won't do what you want in the river anyway.  Just a Mrs Simpson or a Black/Silver Clouser will be fine on a floating line.

Thanks for the great advice. I actually have a kayak, but it is in transit to Brisbane, and I wont be able to get my hands on it for 5 or 6 weeks. I will keen for a look at the Twin Bridges when the water settles.
