Fishing Report

Thursday 31st March, 2011

RIVERS FULL OF CARP
From the reports I have been getting, it seems that after the recent rains and flooding of most of our rivers, there seems to be huge amounts of European Carp being caught. For those of you experiencing this, you need to ensure that these pests are not returned to the water, and remember that these fish can survive for substantial periods of time out of water. There are many Carp Buster type competitions in most areas, so if you have one taking place locally, get out there and do your bit in trying to minimise the amount of these fish in our river systems.

COOBY DAM
Cooby is still a bit quiet, and is mainly producing Jew and Yellowbelly on bait, with the best bait being, live shrimp, live worms and saltwater yabbies.

CRESSBROOK DAM
There have been a few Bass caught on SMAK Mini Coop spinnerbaits in some parts of the dam, and some good catches of Redclaw.

SOMERSET DAM
The dam is still unsettled, but there has been some small catches of Bass caught on ice jigs around the Pelican Point area of the dam, and there have been plenty of Redclaw caught throughout the dam.

BOONDOOMA DAM
The fishing is still a bit tough, there have been a few Bass caught on SMAK spinnerbaits right up the back of the Boyne and Stuart arms of the dam. Try spinnerbaits around the points for yellowbelly and there are still plenty plenty of Redclaw being caught, with dog sausage and dry dog food still the best bait.

LAKE BARAMBAH (BJELKE PETERSON DAM)
Still quiet, but it’s worth a try with spinnerbaits and Jackalls around the points in the main bay and the back reaches of the dam for Yellowbelly and Bass, and there are still good numbers of Redclaw being caught.

ST. GEORGE
There is a flow in the river again, which has slowed the fishing down a bit, with only a few Yellowbelly being caught.

LESLIE DAM

Plenty of nice Yellowbelly and a few Cod being caught on lures and bait, with bait being the most successfull.

TEXAS
The river near town is still a bit quiet, however there have been a few Cod taken upstream of Texas in the Dumeresque River. There has also been plenty of Carp caught in most parts of the river.

COOLMUNDA DAM
Still a few Yellowbelly on trolled lures in the dam itself this week, downstream of the dam there was some nice Cod and Yellowbelly taken on Jackalls.

GLENLYON DAM
Still plenty of Yellowbelly, Silver Perch and Jew being caught on lures and bait, There have also been plenty of Cod taken around the 60 to 75cm mark.

CALOUNDRA
Offshore, there has been some Spanish and Spotty Mackerell on 12 Mile Reef and also some nice Grassy Sweetlip at Brays Rock and Currumundi Reef. Inshore there have been some Trevelly and Flathead around the Boardwalk area, a few and Jacks around the canals of Pelican Waters, and some nice Muddies in the passage.

MAROOCHYDORE
Offshore some big Spanish Mackeral in the 14 to 30kg mark have been caught around the Blinker on lures and live bait, and there have been some good catches of Grassy Sweetlip around Old Woman Island. There has been some quality Flathead and Mangrove Jack around Petrie Creek, Bli Bli Island and the canals at Kawana, and a few Trevelly and Estuary Codt throughout the Maroochy River.

NOOSA
Offshore has produced some good catches of Sweetlip, Parrot Fish and Coral Trout on Sunshine Reef. The inshore fishing is still producing some good catches of Mangrove Jack, Taylor and Trevelly around the mouth of the Noosa River, Flathead and Bream throughout, as well as whiting and flathead at Munna Point.

TWEED
Offshore, Spanish Mackerell and Wahoo at 30 fathoms, Mangrove Jacks and School Jew around the bridges and rocky points, a few Flathead upstream of the Golf Club. Muddies throughout the River, and also try the beaches for Taylor and School Jew.

SOUTHPORT
A bit quiet offshore this week due to poor weather conditions, but there has still a few Spanish Mackerell caught. Inshore Trevelly, Taylor and some School Jew in the Seaway, Whiting around the Council Chambers, Bream and Flathead in the Jumpinpin area, and muddies around Jacobs Well.
