Eungella Dam
« on: June 29, 2011, 06:15:00 PM »
Hi,

Just wondering if it is worth a trip to Eungella Dam this time of year to chase Sooties or would I be better off waiting until Spring/Summer time? I have never fished there before so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
Adrian

I've not fished Eungella alot, however I can't see whay you wouldn't be able to catch some of them black tanks that live there.

Cheers,

Fitz..

The winter months often see less fish but they tend to be bigger. Great spot in the winter but take some a good jacket ;)

Thanks for your help.
Really appreciate it and I am going to head up there next weekend as long as the weather is good.
Will definately pack a good jacket, I fished Cania a couple of weeks ago and it got down to 1 degree there!

Cheers
Adrian

Hi,

Got 7 Sooties to 400mm over the weekend, lures only. Fishing was slow and the water temp was down to 17 degrees. Awesome spot and I will definately be doing a few trips up there when it warms up. Theresa Creek Dam has been a bit hit and miss for me but I have seen a few Barra caught there, never got one myself. Yeah good wild Toga fishing out this way for which I can't get enough of.  :thumbsup

and rumors of small cod captures....

thanks for the update.....  :thanks

Been pondering the cod up from the lake for some time. Last time up there I blew half a tank of fuel just running up there from the wall & still wasn't close to where I wanted to be. Ended up limping it back with a cupful (and minn kota) to spare.

Alot of water there.......

Yeah mate huge dam isn't it! Very shallow in some Places though. Iv had better luck traveling to back of dam and then fishing there.... Either springsure side of dam.... Or down gemfeilds way will get you behind back of dam and into creeks! Only caught goldens so far and in good amounts. Saratoga seem to favor the south east end of dam near gindie and springsure. Ever see that cod photo that showed up from emerald, medium sized cod caught at top weir about 2-3 years .... CAnt seem to find it anymore

In the weir? Wow. Onbviously gone over the wall, but that's no surprize with the volume & speed that dam goes over....

Saw a pic of a 50-60 pounder that Harro pulled from the rocky wall under the picnic area some years back.
