Humminbird 360 at Lake Somerset
« on: January 21, 2013, 11:27:32 AM »
Here's some video shot recently with Tim Morgan ( Humminbird ) & Trevor Rowe (Karee Marine) using the Humminbird 360 surround sonar to find bass at Lake Somerset.

Couple of questions

(reference is the 12 second mark in the video)

so the dark blue / black is under the boat (37.7feet) - and if so to what angle (talk cone if its viable)

The light blue (second circle) is the side immaging 360.

And completely off topic, what teh hell is going on with the socks and sandles look on Trev? never knew he had pommy heritage.

Yep, same as down imaging, side imaging, structure scan etc,  the black section is the water column, the shaded areas are where it is making contact with the bottom.
There's not so much a "cone angle" with these units as we used to talk with 2d sonar, it covers virtually everything from directly under the boat out to the edge or the range set. In that case it was set to 60 feet radius, can go out to 150feet range, but everything on screen will be smaller....

THe Humminbird 360 sonar is compatible with the following models:

798cxi HD SI Combo
898 xc SI Combo
998 cx SI Combo
1198 cx SI Combo

If you already own one of the models listed above, you will only need a software upgrade to take the 360 transducer.

The transducer is quite large and needs to be fixed to the transom of a boat, looks similar to the Talon. Will never fit on a kayak mate.
When deployed, the transducer is send down on a worm drive shaft to get deeper than the skeg of the motor. I swam down under the boat & watched it go down, even videod it underwater but not sure what I did with that clip.

Not sure of rpm but it seems to updated fairly quickly, more than adequate to keep an eye on a what's happening down there.

There's an image of what the 360 looks like mounted on a boat in the tube below

Unit?

Do you mean the sounder head unit (screen) or the transducer?

Sorry mate the transducer unit
Ah, ok. It is a serious size unit that includes the transducer and the deploying mechanism.

Attached is a picture showing the unit.

If you look at tthe 45 second mark of the first video you'll see the transducer on the back of Tim's boat.
