Atherton Tableland fishing
« on: May 18, 2011, 09:13:05 PM »
Sitting in Mareeba waiting to become a Grandfather for the 5th time I began to pine for some fishing. I cast a small lure into the Granite Creek that runs thru town and produced one nice little Sootie. Encouraged by that we drove the 30km out to the Walsh River and did some prospecting there. Got busted off by something probably a big sooty, then tried further downstream and pulled in a small Barra. There is only one problem with this sort of fishing ; the few hours cost me 2 hardbody lures a couple of plastics and some jigheads. It's worth it tho because there is some quality light gear fishing not too far from town here. Fitzy and Brett Guy know it but I had to find out for myself. In fact I contributed to BCF by a few hundred bucks to get the gear I didn't bring with me. Just goes to show you can't have enough gear.

Thanks Gary and Brett,
We're all happy that everything worked out OK, I think you'll agree that 9lb 9oz is a pretty hefty kid. Brett, no worries mate, I'll make sure I get to have a fish with you mate, I'm really looking forward to it and still collecting more lures, starting to feel like Frank Prokop. Having a bit of trouble getting 4 lb braid though so may have to but up with 6lb.
Cheers,
JD

Bracy,
Thanks mate, that makes a boy and a girl for my youngest daughter and me a grandfather 5times over. Have to start putting aside some small items of fishing gear.

Thanks Toni,
Like you we are now down at the rusty stuff. Going to hit the Mossman River tomorrow. No whales there though, just crocs.
Cheers
JD
