Wivenhoe Dam Water Release - Update
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:03:01 AM »
25 January 2012

Small | Large

Seqwater advises that due to rainfall and inflows in the catchments, Wivenhoe Dam will begin drainage operation releases at ten a m, at a rate of up to 350 cubic metres per second.
Releases from Somerset Dam into Wivenhoe are expected to commence later today.

These releases will control inflows to both Somerset and Wivenhoe dams and ensure that Wivenhoe Dam is drained back to near full supply levels (75%) in the next seven days.
These releases are expected to impact Twin Bridges, Savages Crossing and Colleges Crossing.
If further heavy rainfall occurs during the next 24 hours, it may be necessary to increase releases from Wivenhoe Dam.
At this stage, no urban flooding is expected.
Operational releases continue.
For detailed information on road and crossing closures and other potential impacts, always contact your local council. For river level information, please visit the Bureau of Meteorology website, www.bom.gov.au.

If we'd have done that at a certain time last year we may have saved Paul Tully's house in Goodna and we wouldn't have all the panic this year.

I like the spin they put on it. Make it sound like ahh bugger all at 170 cubic meters per second.

A cubic meter..hmmm well hang on that is 1000 ltrs

so lets look at the big picture of the panic merchants - the amount being released is

170 000 litres per second.

I don't think the new black stuff at Savages Crossing will survive this one.

Notice they're keeping the release rate down so the new black stuff doesn't go under.  It should be a concrete road where it goes under regularly.
