Culgoa Floodplains National Park
« on: April 14, 2012, 08:13:17 PM »
We did a 5 day trip out to western Qld going as far as Culgoa Flood Plains National Park before turning for home.

Took the kayaks so we could go for a paddle on Byra Lagoon on the national park. Park ranger informed us that European Carp have been found in this laoog for the first time, thanks to recent floods. Did a spot of fishing for them for little result, and saw the rangers son catch a 2.5kg specimen. Saw lots of other carp while I persevered casting spinnerbaits for yellowbelly, for nil result.
The bird life of this lagood is awesome; waterbirds of all shapes and sizes, raptors everywhere & the sound of Major Mitchell Cockatoos was always to be heard. Saw hundreds of Brolgas take to flight as we drove along side some sorghum cultivation, spectacular indeed.

Emu & red kanagaroos were everywhere along roads / tracks with several mobs of pigs seen. Goats were common as soon as you got off the roads & onto less used tracks.

A couple of close encounters with snakes including a pretty big Mulga Snake that was intent on getting into the rangers yard.

Have alot of video and pictures from several places & will load them up as I get through them.

Here's a quick bit of video of one Mulga Snake.
