kayaks on Lake Kurwongbah
« on: December 30, 2012, 03:26:59 PM »
I was fishing on Lake Kurwongbah this morning and saw three people fishing from kayaks; also two on Friday. Does anyone know if the regulations have changed or are these people just ignoring the rules? Feels like missing out on something! It's a pretty dumb rule if it is still current, especially when there are ski boats tearing up the place.

It's not whether a fish is caught or not; being on the water is its own reward

no change in rules - but the word is the Rangers are either turning a blind eye or just asking people to leave, no threat of prosecution etc.
By the time those of us who obey the rules get a look in the fish will be all lure shy !

Sadly Kurwongbah seems to be inhabited by people who seem to think that rules and regulations are only meant for someone else.
 Hours of access ignored.
 Yakking and boating regs ignored
. Several lakeside residents take their 2 stroke outboards out fishing.
No such thing as closed season. ( Excuse is I am only catch and release fishing )
 White bucket brigade,
All of the above only make it harder to bring about any change when the easy option for SEQ water is to shut the whole place down
Cheers
Ray

:GoodPost)  Its a daily thing since christmas  ::)  but its very common for me to see people out there fishing .  I havent fished there from my Kayak ( yet ) .  Its  very CONFUSING a rowing club , fishing ... but no kayak fishing ? :o
Ive spent MANY hrs on the net searching the rules and regulations to be a responsible fisho here in my new home SE QLD .
Id love to see the lake open , even a permit system in place like sampsonvale .  I have seen many post on this forum of nice fish there it seems a shame to waste it  ???

on a litter not  ;D   PB  yesterday  54 cm GP  ( river caught ! )

Well we have been sweating on SEQ Water's management plan for the local dams for years now.
Obviously its sitting on somebodies desk, either because its contentious, or they dont agree with it. (Or maybe its in a lonely IN tray at a desk no one visits anymore after Can Sackem's efforts!  )

I retire in 10 years, hoping it will be released in time for that!

I just dont understand the logic behind the ban the ski boats have been using the lake for as long as I can remember and are probibly to blame for the infestation of cabomba weed that now blankets the edges yet kayaks that would have to be one of the eco friendly of all the watercraft are banned, doesn't make sense. Why not do as is done on NPD and open it up from say from ski rd/ lakeside/narangaba reaches  to a limited number of permits this way the kayaks wouldnt interfer with either the ski boats or the rowing club. Surely theres enough room to accomadate all interests

The cabomba weed is pretty unlikely to have come from the fizz boats. There was one fella (won't say his name here) who was the Johnny Appleseed of cabomba; travelling around dropping it into various locations.

Cabomba is in a good number of the small dams in the Sideling Ck. catchment  :thumbdown

Why would anyone want to spread cabomba its a scurge and has the potential to almost make a fishing venue unfishable

Who knows, most feral animals and plants are actively spread, very rarely accidentally.

I hope  soon you will be able too yak on the lake .
As fishing from the bank there has cost me a lot of money on lures.
Cheers

To harvest & sell in the aquarium trade as "fan wort, tank weed" etc... Do most people know what they're really buying?
