Now and then ( 2011 Brisbane River flood)
« on: January 09, 2013, 08:58:54 PM »
It will be 2 years since the flood for us here in Wivenhoe pocket, I still can't get over how high the river came.

Wivenhoe poocket Rd looking south.
Now.

11th of jan 2011

Shines Rd ( Heart Attack Hill is at the end of the street )
Now.

10th of Jan 2011

Brisbane valley Hwy (looking inbound towards Fernvale) at the intersection with Wivenhoe Pocket Rd.
Now.

11th of January 2011

The flood peak was just after midnight on January the 11th, would of been a foot or 2 higher at that time.

Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks for sharing Dave

I think we forget easily at times how much water was around.

Yeah it sure was amazing how much water there was. I lived in Brassall at the time and the bremer came up to my back fence. The street below wasn't so lucky..

I'll never forget the amount of water in Fernvale and I doubt that Pam will forget her car floating in the street in Toowoomba with her in it.

Great post Dave.

I live in Wivenhoe Pocket too, but was up near Tin Can Bay when the floods hit, so I have only seen photos of when the water was at it's highest. These are some of the best I've seen - great (but scary) to see the comparison shots.

Isnt it unbelievable that some houses right on the river on the Pocket side of the bend were spared but others further back from the river were destroyed.

Tim.
