A step closer to re-opening Billies Bay and Hays Landing - Seqwater

The re-opening of the Billies Bay and Hays Landing recreation areas at Lake Wivenhoe is one step closer, with the Somerset Regional Council recently announcing a partnership with the state government to build a new $750,000 bridge at Hine Road, Dundas. The new bridge will replace the two existing timber bridges, which currently have a load limit.

The replacement of the bridge will literally pave the way for the re-opening of the Billies Bay and Hays Landing recreation areas. Once the bridge repairs are complete and funding has been secured to repair and improve infrastructure at the recreation areas, the site will be re-opened to the public.

Located at a beautiful part of the lake, the re-opening of these recreation areas to public access was overwhelmingly supported during the recreation review. Access to these recreation areas will no doubt be welcomed by the local community, drawing visitors to the eastern side of the lake. Stay tuned for further updates!

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann confirmed with the Somerset & Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Assn last month that funding for the new bridge had been secured. This is a commitment to improving fishing access to Wivenhoe and an endorsement of the groups efforts in stocking the lake to date. Sorry, only registered users can see this content. That's great news for anglers in South East Queensland, especially the Kayak guys.

Awesome news! It's a heck of a paddle from Kipper Creek and even further from Logan's to get to that area of the lake. I've been wanting to explore down that side for years, but it is just too far when you're running on person power.

Awesome news.

Having to bother with the key from the sailing club was off putting to say the least. BigW's visitor numbers are certainly going to increase when it reopens.
