Vanuatu Jungle Perch pics
« on: October 25, 2010, 07:47:47 AM »
just got back from a trip to Vanuatu. Unfortunately didn't get to do any fishing but saw a sight that will stick with me forever. On a regular tourist trip to a waterfall I came across a few pools with JPs ( Jungle Perch ) swimming around in them. Most were the regular 25cm size fish but one pool next to a bar(yes the kind that serves cold beer) had masses of fish to maybe 50cm. I could not believe my eyes. And they were not at all scared of people. Anywho I managed to snap a few pics of these fish for you guys to drool over.

the pool by the bar

Try and count them

50cm JP

Both species were in the pool
I was even throwing bugs into these things for twenty minutes.

Thanks for the pics Brett.  I've seen pics of big JP's in PNG, in the Kulu River.  I was lucky enough to catch a couple of smaller JP's in the Langalanga river in West New Britain last week.  I'll dig the photo's and video out soon.  It was a bit of a mission to get to them.

G'Day Steve,

Watch the video below taken in Mossman Gorge & look closely towards the end. I didn't see them at the time, but there's a quick shot of a pack of pretty big Jungle Perch there.

This is one Riccard caught from the top of the Kulu River in New Britain last year.

That's Chris, he's a top guy and a pretty good boat driver.  He looks a bit scarey, but his three wives think he's a top bloke.
