SunWater reminds campers of safety requirements at Wuruma Dam
15 Mar 2016 - Sunwater

SunWater is urging all campers and visitors planning a trip to Wuruma Dam over the Easter period to stay safe.
SunWater’s Central Service Manager, Milton Pukallus said SunWater is aware that Wuruma Dam is becoming an increasingly popular camping destination for holiday weekends and it’s important for visitors to understand the limitations of the available facilities before they set off.
“We want everyone to enjoy their visit, whether it is to camp for only a couple of days, go fishing, boating and skiing or just a picnic for the day.
“If planning a camping trip to the dam in the coming weeks, some key considerations are that camping is only permitted within the designated camping area only and open fires are not permitted anywhere at the dam, so please bring a non-wood-fired barbeque.
“In particular if planning to camp throughout this peak Easter period, please note that there are only limited toilet and rubbish facilities available and that there is no treated water available, so we are reminding visitors to bring sufficient drinking water and to take their rubbish when they leave.
“This is especially important as there is likely to be an increase in campers as well as visitors for swimming, boating and fishing over the Easter period.
“We can’t emphasise the importance of safety enough. We ask people to observe our signs and the messages in our new safety campaign – taking risks around dams and weirs is dangerous, read the signs and stay safe.
“We have recently updated a visitor brochure that lists the available recreational facilities and expectations for responsible and safe behaviours.
“It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep our dam recreational facilities a fun, safe and clean place to relax and have a good time.
For some more important tips to keep in mind when visiting a dam or weir, view the Safety tips when visiting a dam brochure available on SunWater’s website or view the safety campaign on YouTube.
The Wuruma Dam visitor brochure is available on SunWater’s website at sunwater.com.au/sustainability/community/recreational-facilities.
Wuruma Dam is located on the Nogo River approximately 23km north-west of Eidsvold. Wuruma Dam provides water for farmland and townships along the Burnett River downstream of the dam.
