Top Cod and Yellowbelly Lures
« on: May 19, 2011, 02:39:42 PM »
Gday all, Thinking of taking the annual family holiday at either Pindari or Copeton Dam this september. Usually go to Boondooma Dam but think it still might be a bit slow on the fishing side so decided to go south instead. The reason for my post in what would be your 10 top lures, spinnerbaits(colour and weight),soft plastics, that you all would use if you were doing the trip. All fishing is catch (hopefully) photo and release and done from a boat. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Mate I can't speak for Copeton although it's pretty full at the moment. But I fished Pindari a little while back and found the water very dirty with a lot of Blue Green Algae. The fishing was ordinary as a result although I did manage one very solid Yella ona Codman spinnerbait. Camping with the family is better at Copeton though because most of the camping around Pindari means clinging to the sides of hills. Maybe I'm fussy but that's my view of it.
Cheers
JD

Not sure about a top 10, it all depends on what the weather & water is like on any given day.

I'd make sure you cover the bases, some spinnerbaits, some mumblers, some timber hard bodies and some surface paddlers. Cover those bases & you should have enough to be able to get a fish or three.

Cheers,

fitz..

Check the closed seasons.
Might affect the lures you take.

Mate, Top 10 for copeton ay.... Geez.... Well in no particular order.....
1/2 ounce spinnerbait, Gold blades, double colorado in purple black and white.
Oar Gee Plow
Oar Gee Shad
Stumpjumper- all sizes
Predatek Boomerang 65 and 80
120mm Australian Crafted
Deceptions-all sizes
Jackalls- dozer, TN 50/60/70
big mong
popeye's
RMG
Tilsan
humpbacks
jd's

Where do we stop...... (Sorry more then 10)
If your not effected by closed season of course, I'd go for a variety- try mixing it up with a natural, then a fluro etc. and fish a variety of depths.

The mumbler/cod botheror has produced some corkers in recent times, at both Copeton and Splitrock,
Remember, whatever you have tied on, try fihsing it nice and slow for a bit. Some of our best fish have come off a pause/sink style retrieve.
I rember fishing copeton years ago, trolling with my better half, and my large cod lure became snagged on a granite log... whilst reverseing to free my lure a huge Yella smashed her floating predatek boomerang 65 in the Mulga Frog colour, a personal favourite for copeton's clear waters...
Kind Regards, Matt Hansen
