thinking about putting a lowrance elite 4 in my vapour 12 :)) but say if i scratch the hull will there be faulty readings displayed on the unit ?

No. As long as the tx is epoxied or siliconed inside the hull it will be fine.

I wonder how my transducer reads after a few trips down the Dum dragged over rocks.... An in hull it aint :Oops)

Here's a link of a clip we put together for "BLADE" Look closely how I laid the Sikaflex into the area where the transducer was mounted, the nozzle of the tube is cut wide and the adhesive is laid in with the nozzle almost touching the bottom of the yak. Course sandpaper used on the bottom of the transducer is too course and wet and dry sandpaper is recommended. I have mounted many like this, none have failed. Follow the clip and you can't go wrong! :youbeauty

I'm about to install a FF in my outback (echo 300c). Just wanted to check re the sanding. Do I sand both the kayak where the pad and the transducer are going (then clean) and then the bottom of the transducer as well? Is it just a light sand to give a bit of grip?
Will be using selleys all clear for my install.

I have got in the habit of using wet and dry sandpaper on the transducer as well, also shown in the clip above as I had issues in the past when the transducer did not adhere as well as it should.

Done the same as Bracey on a few installs, have always sanded both surfaces to get a good key for the sealant to grip.

I use Fixtech and have never had a problem.

I first started using Selley's All Clear, however I had a few troubles with bubbles, now only use Sika Flex or a construction adhesive which is pretty much the same that Hardies Ipex bring out for laying timber floors. Sticks like s**t to a blanket, however very flexable to cater for expansion and contraction.

What sealant did you use?
Generally All Clear warmed up before applying and had no problems, have also used Sikaflex, and Roof and Gutter sealant with success.

Never heard of Fixtech, must keep an eye out for it Fitzy! Is it a clear sealant?

Normally don't post external links unless relevant, but the stuff I use is Fixtech Fixseal MP15, comes in black or white. A marine trimmer who swears by it, reckons it out performs sikaflex and the white doesn't turn yellow with age.

Another good one is Aquaseal.
Your local marine dealer or trade supply should have it or get it for you.

Where abouts did everyone mount their battery for there sounder? Some pics of some mounting ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Here's one method to consider in installing your battery which is situated in a light weight piece of condensed foam which is about 70mm thick. The transducer method is a wet mount also using the same piece of foam to house it. The foam can be purchased from Clark Rubber or a similar company that supplies rubber and foam.
