Fishing & Lake Report 12/08/2015

Water level 11/08/15: 60 %

Water visibility: up to 1.5 metres

Forecast Weather: This weekend is looking the best and warmest for quite a while. Night time lows of 2 degrees with day time high of 16 degrees Celsius. Winds to remain light.

Murray Cod: A couple of respectable fish for this week’s report, Ben from Wagga landed a nice 82cm fish. Ben was trolling a 150mm AC Invader towards the village. Swanny from Goulburn also landed an 8o cm cod, on a Jackall, in the main Basin. Swanny left me a brief note so I don’t know if he was trolling, or casting the lure. Another scribbled note in the afterhours box had a 70 cm fish noted down but no other details. We finally had some sunshine last weekend, however the early starts were a bit fresh for the few keen fishermen. This weekend is also looking sunny and a little warmer. Only a few weeks left to land a Murray Cod before the closed season starts on the 1st of September.
Yellow Belly: A few fish are starting to creep on to the catch sheet, most of these are being caught by the bait fisherman, with worms being the most popular bait. With the dam continuing to rise and inundate the surrounding shore line, it is obvious that worms would be on the menu for the foraging yellows. Target the shallows particularly after dark, with a baited hook. Judy and Bob stayed with us for 3 days this week and managed 6 yellows up to 48cm. Worms once again did the trick.
Redfin: There are a few around. Judy & Bob managed 28 fish, while Jigging Worms. They were fishing in the Bidgee Arm between Macey’s Bay and Scrubby. The biggest fish were up to 35cm. There were a few caught last week towards the village. The shallows around Cathedral Rock are usually worth a go also.
Silver Perch: We had one caught this week. A 42cm fish took a worm near one of the inflows. I have been here at the park for 4 years now and not managed to catch a silver. The silvers continue to be stocked each year but not in huge numbers. It would be great to see them become a more frequent catch in the dam.
The Greg Whitehead Memorial Fishing Challenge will be held at the park from the 21st to 23 rd of August. All profits from the weekend are being donated to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
