Fishing Reports / Dumaresq River 10.5.21
« Last post by Member on May 11, 2021, 02:23:48 PM »
Wow , its been a awhile since I have done one of these.

I haven't fished the Dumaresq due the the drought, river not flowing and virtually dry.

So after the Major flood a month or so ago I thought I would go and check it out.

She is running clean with a good base flow, all that choked up weed has been cleared.

Weather was perfect, did an arvo session into the early evening. I'l let the pictures tel the story.

Gibraltar reserve.

Plenty of flood debris.

The big log at the end of the anabranch has been moved.

The night got cold quick. The fish weren't playing so I called it quits.
With Glen Lyon with some water in it now I am optimistic that the river should be ok for the next year or two at least.

Cheers,
Dave.

So Fitz, does Somerset fish better purely because its a smaller dam than Wivenhoe or are there more finglings put in there as more sips are sold for that dam?

Does Somerset fish better than Wivenhoe? I don't think it does.

Somerset has far more fishing pressure for a few reasons:
- Unrestricted boating type & speed.
- Multiple lanes of boat ramps covering more water levels.
- More consistent water levels.
- Loads of tourist park options. Massive tourist park + camp ground at dam wall + SDA Camp Somerset.
- No forkies in Somerset which some anglers limited skill set sees them challenged by the bi-catch in Wivenhoe

Somerset has significantly higher fishing pressure than any other lakes in Qld. Wivenhoe isnt far behind Somerset in fishing pressure.

Please note that as of 2019 the following waters are totally closed to all fishing from 1 August to 1 November each year.
Waters closed to line fishing

A person must not possess or use a fishing line in the following area:

Obi Obi Creek: No fish can be taken from Obi Obi Creek all year round between the Baroon Pocket Dam wall and the shortest line across the creek at the downstream side of Obi Obi Creek crossing 4 (Manuel Hornibrook Bridge).

A person must not possess or use a fishing line from 1 August to 31 October in the following locations:

Albert River (upstream from the junction of Canungra Creek and Albert River – includes Canungra Creek)

Christmas Creek

Coomera River (upstream from the junction of Guanaba Creek and Coomera River – includes Guanaba Creek)

Mary River and adjoining waterways (upstream of its junction with Six Mile Creek at the creek’s northern bank, other than waters up to the full supply level of Baroon Pocket Dam, Borumba Dam and Lake MacDonald.

Running Creek

Stanley River (above Neurum Creek and Stanley River junction)

This is to protect breeding cod.

If you had asked to me estimate what I thought you had put in over the years I would have thought you blokes would have dropped more than that in

Your the big end of town. You throw fingerlings around by the 100's of thousands while us lesser souls dabble in thousands........

Certainly a good long history of stocking.
