Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has today announced that Keepit Dam’s $2.2 million electrical relocation project will be in the spotlight as a finalist in the 2015 National Electrical and Contracting Association (NECA) NSW Excellence Awards.

“Through this stage of work it was estimated more than $500,000 was injected into the local economy further local investment is anticipated as later stages progress” Mr Anderson said.

“Electrical supplies, earthmoving and plumbing services were sourced from Tamworth for this job so the local community can share some pride in the recognition of this project.

“As with stage one of the Keepit Dam safety upgrade the electrical works were completed to the highest standard, on time and on budget.”

Construction contractors Ryan Wilks entered the project in the Commercial Medium Build Category after completing construction on time and budget in December 2014.

WaterNSW Executive Manager Asset Development Projects Brett Tucker said the works involved replacement and relocation of electrical equipment and construction of a switch room to improve access ahead of the post-tensioning works in stage two of the Keepit Dam Safety Upgrade.

An innovative roller system was developed by the project team to overcome the challenges faced with running casing and electrical conduits up the steep dam wall.

Tenders for the dam wall post-tensioning works are scheduled to be awarded mid next year following the current geotechnical investigations.

Options for further works following post-tensioning are currently being investigated.

The NECA NSW awards ceremony will be held in Sydney on Friday, 11 September 2015.
