The Redfin at Lake Burrendong are in a feeding frenzy at present, and seem to be slamming pretty much any offering presented in the correct fashion!
Scott Watkinson, Dallas Ridley, James and Matt Craft and I (Matt Hansen) sounded out a sumbmerged rock point in the main bassin at 6.30am.... And to put it simply, enjoyed one of the most amazing redfin sessions we have ever experienced!
Casting LCB's and a variety of small soft platics on 1/8 and 1/4 ounce jig heads.... And well.... 2 hours later and we were struggling to find room to store them!
Red fin (English Perch) are an introduced PEST, and are single handedly responsible for the annihilation millions of native fish fingerlings from the inland system every year. Throw on top of that the fact that they carry the deadly EHN virous, which is harm full to native fish, and we have on our hands a problem perhaps worse then the European Cap!
A ferocious feeder, my mates and I love nothing more then a big red fin sesion to feel that we have done our bit!
Please, if you catch a reddie, take it home fore the table or get it out of the system! Releasing this PEST is going to do nothing but stuff the future of our fishing!

Reddies were the staple diet of my fishing addiction as I was growing up. Lake Hume was frequented most weekends. They're good on the plate too. We used to get some stonkers up in the Tallangatta arm, mainly using live yabbies. One morning session was 5 fish for 24 pounds total. It wasn't that hard to fill a sugar bag when they were really on the chew. Sadly, anglng pressure won't kill them off, but a couple of hundred on the BBQ can't do any harm. Well done.

Yep... Severe case of cast-ritess tonight! The worst thing is the small white lumps, itchiness, cuts and lacerations on my hands from getting all the little buggers out of the live well and eventually, the hull that we started filling! Anyone know any remeddies for "fish spiking itch"???? Matt

The main difference is Cod Rash is painful and fun. Reddie Rash is just painful.
This may not now be considered the correct thing to do, but as kids we'd let the old Carribean Whaler sit up against the gates at the Hume Weir spillway catching hundreds of 6" Reddies. The trick was to time the hoik correctly when a car was heard passing above. An overhead long arm pitch usually saw the fish go up over the barrier and onto the road in front of the car. A late throw may have seen the fish land on the bonnet or roof, resulting in a blow of the horn. At full water, Bethanga Bridge was another ideal location for this activity.

Best remedy is is to give your hands a good solid scrub with isopropyl alcohol and a nail brush during or asap afterwards.
Always do this when handling a lot of Bass here in what is basicly urban runoff, can quickly develop into some quite nasty infections.

Drop an antihistamine tablet as well in case there is a bit of allergic reaction going on as well. If I forget to put gloves on when cleaning a lot of red claw I get the same, the antihistamine helps me.
