Georges River fish kill investigation continues
Media release: 18 February 2015 - NSW EPA

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is continuing its investigation into the source of a fish kill in the Georges River at Moorebank over the weekend.

The clean-up of dead fish was completed on Monday afternoon with a total of four tonnes removed from the River and disposed at an appropriate landfill facility.

The latest set of test results that came through today confirmed preliminary testing and showed that the water in the drain where the white foam flowed to the River at the time was highly toxic to aquatic life.

EPA officers are continuing to take further water samples from a nearby stormwater drain and will be following up on a number of lines of inquiry as part of the on-going investigation.

The EPA strongly encourages anyone with information which they think may be useful to the investigation to contact the EPA’s 24hour Environment Line on 131 555. Confidential reports can also be made.

People are advised to avoid contact with the River between Liverpool Weir and the Casula Powerhouse and any further sightings of dead fish should be reported to the Environment Line 131 555.
