Ebor Trout Massacre
« on: November 04, 2011, 10:15:28 AM »
Promised my son Jules a trout fishing trip before the end of last season but we never made it due to work committments and weather, so as soon as the season was going to open this year (coinciding with school holidays) the trip was planned - we got up there (Ebor New England Tablelands)  to find that it has been pouring rain - which had scattered the crowds that normally get there for opening day - we had the creeks pretty much to ourselves- Jules score his first fish after about 5 minutes of fishing - and outfished me ( a reoccurring theme) anout 5 fish to one (although I did catch the largest!!) - fish were not big barely over leagal - but they were fun on light gear and tasted great fried up whole.

A technicue that Jules developed chasing herring in our local creek brained the rainbows - and it is one that you don't see much written about but works amazing - was to use a small clear bubble float with a beaded nymph dropper - casts well on light spinning gear and when we checked gut contents turned out we were really matching the hatch with regards to what they we eating.

After Ebor we headed to the Nymboida - me hoping to chase a bass - but didn't realise the 3 month cod breeding closure was in place so I had to put my rods away  :-X - mind you meant I spent a lot more time with the kids having other sorts of fun!

Good country down there Jim, I once followed the Styx all the way from up there to where it joins the Mcleay. Must get back one day.
