Mid Brisbane River Fishing Report
« on: November 21, 2013, 07:06:22 PM »
Fished a section of the Mid Brisbane River this morning with a couple of lads from Qld Fishing Monthly magazine.

Did from Twin Bridges to Savages Crossing.
Boothy was test driving the new Old Town Predator 12 kayak, I took a canoe & Livo had a Viking SOT kayak for the day.

Was very disappointed to see the land immediately downstream of Twin Bridges has been cleared & contoured to suit the land owner. Pics attached below....  Also note the picture showing the mob of cattle being driven thru the river by some Tom Burlinson whip cracking wannabees, stirred up the silt, cattle crapping in the river as they went. shame shame shame

Anyhow, everyone got a few bass. Early on was mostly smaller stuff mid 30s to mid 40s.

Livo brought a knife to a sword fight and had his 6lb braid busted a couple of times. He reckons they were good fish, I suspect he just got snagged up and broke the line. BUT, I did point to one snag that I'd caught good fish before and sat back watching. He got a solid hookup and got smoked. So, I thought bugger it, I'll have a throw at the same spot but just to the side. A couple of minutes later I got a really good hit, then a couple of seconds later I got mauled....15lb leader stripped........  :OMG

That's fishing..... Anyhow a few more bass were caught down towards Savages Crossing by Boothy & Livo lost a few more. Before we pulled out at Livo's car to find he'd left his keys in the other car at Twin Bridges. I flagged down a lovely family from Brassall who were leaving, they were kind enough to give me a lift to Twin Bridges to get the other car.

I took off to work and the QFM lads moved up to Lowood to give the water there a try. The text messages told me there were bass upto 48cm fork length were caught. I'd be guessing you'll see pics in an upcoming FM edition.

A couple of pics I took below.

Hmmm maybe that's why they weren't biting at Savages for the few hours I went there this arvo. Good to see you guys at least got some.

Any chance it could of been a cod that stripped your 15lb leader Fitzy?

Forgot to mention that I also snuck up on a Platypus having a scratch on a log. Sat there for a few minutes just watching him and got some video footage with the iphone. I don't recall seeing a platypus in the Brisbane river before so I was quite surprised to see him. Is it a regular occurrence to see them in the Brissy River? I see them all the time in other "out of the way" creeks but never in the Upper Brisbane.

I've seen quite a few platypus in the mid Brissy. Usually early morning when it is nice and quiet. Mostly they are swimming along with the regular duck-diving looking for tasty morsels. Kinda gives you a nice warm and fuzzy to know that they are about and looking quite healthy too.

Jim, I would suspect so.

Wayne, platypus are common thru the system. If you want to share the video, You can email it straight from smart phone to t8vnxopj26dn@m.youtube.com and it will load straight into the Sweetwater YouTube channel and come up on the video sidebar here.
