Yarra River
« on: December 29, 2011, 05:19:43 PM »
On holidays in Victoria and decided to check out the mid Yarra River . After reading a bit of info from http://www.fishingvictoria.org.au/yarra_river_fishing.htm I was all gee'd up for a bit Murray Cod action and maybe a Macquarie Perch !

Decided on Fitzsimons Lane at Eltham as a good place to start.

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Fitzsimons+Lane,+Eltham,+Victoria&hl=en&ll=-37.740712,145.135295&spn=0.004861,0.010568&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=44.616539,86.572266&vpsrc=6&hnear=Fitzsimons+Ln,+Eltham+Victoria&t=h&z=17

Upon arrival , it was quickly realised that fishing would be out of the question today. The extreme storms Melbourne recieved on xmas eve had put a large flow in the river and had made it very muddy. From pictures that I had seen of this location the water is normally a lot clearer. The debris line indicated that the water level had been a metre and a half higher in the days prior .

Maybe further upstream would be clearer, as it turned out , no. Went as far up as Yara Glen. The pictures below are from Yara Flats Billabongs.

Oh well, maybe next time. It seems everywhere down here is geared up for trout though, bugger that, I want to see natives to Australia at least.

Cheers,
Dave.
