Day at the dam to inform disaster management
07 Sep 2015 - Sunwater

Banana Shire Council and SunWater invite the community to attend an information day at Callide Dam to enhance public education regarding local disaster management arrangements within the Banana Shire.

The information day will be held on Saturday, 10 October between 10am and 12pm at the Callide Dam recreational area.

Banana Shire Council’s Mayor, Ron Carige said the open day demonstrates Council’s and SunWater’s commitment to address the recommendations by the Inspector-General Emergency Management’s Callide Creek Flood Review.

“It is pertinent timing to host the information day leading into Get Ready Week from October 14-20 to ensure the community is equipped with important disaster management information leading into the wet season.

“On behalf of Banana Shire Council and SunWater, I encourage all members of the Callide Valley to attend the information day”, Mayor Carige said.

The Inspector-General Emergency Management, Iain MacKenzie, and representatives from government departments will also attend the event.

Banana Shire Council will give an update on the implementation of the recommendations and senior officers will be available to answer any questions.

SunWater will have available easy to understand information about how the Callide Dam is operated and maps indicating the impacts of various outflows from both Callide and Kroombit Dams.

For more information about the information day, members of the public should contact Banana Shire Council on 4992 9500 or SunWater on 13 15 89.
