Title: Balonne River ( Surat )

Right on the edge of the town of Surat there is a great little boat ramp into the stocked waterway of the Balonne River .

Unfortunately the recent floods have "remodelled" the floating pontoon and walkway .

In the picnic area on the northern approach to the bridge  , there is a donation tin for the local stocking group.

A mate and I paddled around and flicked a few spinnerbaits for awhile but for no return . The locals say the river is currently too dirty for lures but a few fish have been taken on baits lately.

There are plenty of Eastern Water Dragons ( Physignathus lesuerii ) running around the banks . These two males were slugging it out fighting over a couple of females that were in the vicinity .

The Cobb and Co. Changing Station in the main street of Surat is worth a look .

Inside there is a 25 000 litre aquarium that has Golden, Spangled and Silver Perch , Murray Cod and Eel-Tailed Catfish .
