The only difference to the current arrangement that I can see is that it will give the rangers powers to actually enforce the regulations.
Cannot see that this is a backward step.
Personally I think that it should happen on all of their dams.
Should sort out some of the cowboys who dont seem to care,
Cheers
Ray

Dale you said "The fact is, Lake Wivenhoe is privately owned, they can set the rules."
The asset is owned by the Qld Government and 'managed/operated' by SEQWATER. Therefore as a gov't asset. we the wonderful taxpaying public of Qld actually OWN it...but try telling that to the gov't (whatever flavour).

from the govt MSQ site:-
Marine zone legislation is about better managing our waterways at a local level to balance the needs of maritime users with local community concerns about amenity.

Marine zones establish controls (including restrictions or prohibitions) on certain types of ships or activities within a specified area of our waterways. An example of the type of restriction that could be enforced via a marine zone is a limitation on jet skis, hovercraft and vessels engaged in waterskiing on a declared stretch of river before 10am on Saturdays and Sundays.

Local government determines the need for marine zones following extensive community consultation and an assessment of options before formally approaching Maritime Safety Queensland for their establishment.

Does that mean the Somerset Shire is the proposer?? or has SEQWATER become a local govt ???

Only other MZ in the SEQ are Tallebudgerra Crk and Noosa River

I see it as giving the rangers some clout to ping offenders...and that can't be a bad thing for the future

I'm not a lawyer Brad, I put the info up so that if anyone wanted to object, they could.  I'm pretty sure that the legal advisers for SEQWater have just told them that they cannot do what they are doing, so they have found a way around it.  It doesn't bother me either way.  I don't have too much of an issue, in fact I think 6 knots is too fast.  As even Sel admits, there is a lot more wake at 6 knots than at 3.  I normally troll to where I want to be.  I use Billies Bay to launch because it's closer to where I want to fish.  Yes, I hammer the Mayor and Councillors every chance I get about fixing the bridge, but as usual, I'm the only one doing it.  The ones who are whining about it can't write a letter or make a phone call themselves.  I'm probably a fool, I should just keep it for myself and the couple of others I see out there and not worry about the rest.  That seems to be the way people are now.

Good question Sel. I stopped my membership because it was not user friendly for me to go on the weekend they stipulated to pay my fees. I work weekends, so I no longer have a key, and haven't fished Billy's in years. I sure hope we do get access.

SEQWater won't open it until they can reseal the road to the ramp.  They cannot get the equipment in to do that until Somerset Council fix the bridges and lift the weight restriction.  Somerset Council do not care about tourism so they have the job on the back burner.  It seems I'm the only one making official complaints about it.  I'm hoping to meet the local State Member and the Premier soon to try to escalate it, but it suits me to have it closed so I may not bother.
