Savages to Burton's
« on: November 11, 2013, 10:15:48 AM »
The Savages to Burton's run was a long haul, but worth it. We only really fished until the half way point, before we decided we better just paddle home.
So so many missed surface hits, god knows what more they want to be able to hook, than a lure sitting idle in wait.
We caught all of our fish casting at the snags, being it bank side or mid river.
The surface claimed a few early on, then the hard body's, then moving on to the spinners and beetle spins once the sun was well up.
I also got dusted by a bigger girl on a mid river snag, losing my favourite hard body, made by a mate. But the total tally was 24,between two of us, with many missed hits  and short strikes. Biggest was a 47 that jumped out of Paul's hands before a photo was snapped lol but the most were between that 30 to 43 mark.
It was a good day for it too ;)
Oh sorry, i forgot how to link the videos properly.

Awesome report, thanks for sharing..... And I still see cars going up the top holes every day. There's better fishing to be had further down, especially post spawn.

I fixed your videos, you just need to take the "s" out of the web address http, not https and the software will do it all for you.

Also, if you want your video to go into that video side bar seen through the site, just add SweetwaterFishingAus to the key words of your youtube video & again the software should grab it.

OR, video taken on smart phone can be emailed from your phone to t8vnxopj26dn@m.youtube.com and it will automatically upload it to the sweetwater channel for you.

Cheers,

fitz..

It looks like a heap of fun. Do you paddle down and back in the day or leave a car at each end? What's the security like leaving vehicles there?

Ahhh ok thanks mate! Added the Sweetwater tag into the tags  :)
Yeah there were a few cars up at the top when we launched.
We left a car at both ends, when we got to Burton's, the local animals were out in force, but they seemed ok and my navara was still in one piece lol.  Also back up at Savages, Pauls car was fine too.

There is no public access between Burtons and Savages.  If the distance is too far, you can do Twin Bridges to Savages in less time.  Fishing should be similar.

Sorry Woodji, don't know if there is any public access anywhere. It would be good because that stretch is too long to fish the whole length properly in one day. I did it with my son a month or so ago, we spent the morning fishing pretty hard, then had to paddle hard for the afternoon to get down to Burtons. All up about eight hours on the water.

Cheers Andrew

Totally agree we were on the water from 4am untill 2pm and only fished about halfway down.
If you fished all  the snags it would be a 2 day trip lol.

Same as us Andrew, we fished until half way and paddled home.
I found the fishing better in this stretch rather than the twins to savages.
Didn't think there was any access, but worth a question.
Probably be easier paddling in a bit better yak than I have lol
Cheers

On your next trip, you should paddle half-way down and then start fishing.

Nah, I enjoyed the first half more. There was one tight section that was on fire. I had no problem with the distance of the  paddle, I never said it was too far, was simply curious whether there was an early extraction. I will be back and doing it again, that's for sure, had a blast, plus it was good not to see any other traffic on the water.

I've looked in the database down the whole river for any reserves or gazetted roads etc that back onto the river. There's only one not far down from Savages & it looks to be over grown looking from the gate, but I haven't gone right down there. None others were found for that section, all private property, so unfortunately no there isn't any short cuts. That's probably why it's a better section that the shorter holes up the top, the distance will keep most away.

Cheers,
