Anglers Wishes Answered
23 February 2015 • Media Release   - Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic

An event ‘for the people’, organisers of the Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic have taken into account the wishes of their anglers and for the first time ever extended the fishing hours of the annual competition.

Traditionally hosted on the last full weekend of October, the 2015 Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic will not only extend its program back out to the much loved 3 day format but also extend fishing hours through until later Sunday evening.

Delivering anglers more opportunity to land the thousands of dollars in prizes, cash and trophies up for grabs in over 20 prize categories; Co-Event Manager Steve Farnsworth sees the longer fishing hours as both an incentive and thanks to long time and new fishing classic fans.

“Extending the fishing hours is a way of showing our anglers we really do listen and want to satisfy their eagerness to participate in the competition.”

“With last year’s comp restricted to 2 days we are really keen to make 2015 a stand out event and use it as a way to show our appreciation for all of our supporters who have stuck with us over the years” said Steve.

“Extending the fishing hours will also lengthen our land based entertainment, activities and camping hours as-well; this will hopefully be seen as an incentive for inter and intrastate competitors and visitors to make the trip out to the Isa for a long weekend.”

Hosted at Lake Moondarra every year since 1999 the event that raises funds for the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group has had its share of ups and downs. With 2013 affected by blue-green-algae and 2014 affected by low water levels hats have to go off to the resilient and dedicated group of organising volunteers.

Renowned as not only one of the richest freshwater fishing competitions in the country and a ‘big barra’ tournament the Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic has the ability to bounce back after trying times and plan for an event that will really cement its title as one of Outback Queensland’s ‘must do’ annual events.
