Continuation of the involvement of the PRFMA with the Lake Samsonvale Boating Access Scheme

Because of the important nature of this email we are sending this email to current financial members, life members and previous members for whom we have an email address.

The Seqwater Recreational Review Round 1 Workshop will be held on Saturday the 10th August at the Lawnton Community Hall at the Lawnton Showground’s.

We wish to obtain current and past members opinions on the following prior to 10th August, 2013.

Should the PRFMA

Lobby strongly for the Continuation of the involvement of the PRFMA with the Lake Samsonvale Boating Access Scheme or

Advise Seqwater that at the end of the current Permit Access Season ie 02/05/2014 that the PRFMA are no longer able to manage the continuation of the Lake Samsonvale Boating Access Scheme due to the lack of volunteers involvement and the lack of support from Seqwater.
Points to consider are

In Seqwater,s discussion paper it clearly states - Seqwater’s primary objective in its management of recreation is to manage access to recreation opportunities for the public. As such exclusive use arrangements at Seqwater sites will generally not be considered appropriate. Where existing exclusive use arrangements presently exist, Seqwater will endeavour to work with those clubs and associations that may be affected to ensure any impacts are managed appropriately.

Currently 24 PRFMA members have a Boating Access Permit of which 7 only regularly attend meetings and no one attends working bees.

Policing the Seqwater rules (the previous Deed of Agreement – current Rules of Permit) has become an erroneous task and one that is beyond the capabilities of current voluntary involvement.

The 5 year Licence Agreement for the PRFMA to manage the Boating Access Scheme expired on the 30th June, 2012 and since that time we have continued to manage the Boating Access Scheme under a Letter of Authorisation" The renewal process was stalled due to the fact that Seqwater were reviewing their Recreational Policies.

Also we no longer have access to Block A

Our request for assistance for maintenance of the Roadway and Vessel access have not been fruitful

Because of Public pressure to open Lakes Samsonvale & Kurwongbah to public access, if the PRFMA was invited to continue the management of a Boating Access Scheme and that offer was declined, then Seqwater would have make other arrangements for Access similar to Somerset and Wivenhoe

It appears to be very likely that that Public Kayak access will be allowed at Bullocky’s rest.

If there was no PRFMA Boating Access Scheme the PRFMA would still be a viable stocking entity due to funding from the SIPS program.
Please take a few minutes to consider the contents of this email and hit the reply button and at the very minimum type at least one of the following.

NO (Do not continue the BAS)
YES (Lobby to keep the BAS)
NO OPINION
DO NOT SEND ME ANY MORE EMAILS

Thank you

Regards

Steve Wighton

I don't get a vote, which is fine, but I'm hoping the "no" wins.
