Fishers wanting to hear about projects that are improving fish numbers are invited to attend a free ‘Fishers for Fish Habitat’ forum on Sunday 19 May.
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Conservation Manager, Liz Baker, said the event aims to raise awareness of issues affecting fish numbers and the potential to improve local fisheries through improving habitat.
"The forum will have a strong focus on what fishers are doing and can do, to improve local fish habitat," she said.
"In particular, we will be talking with fishers about their concerns about their local fish habitat and how we can inspire others to get involved."
The forum will be held at the Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park, located just over the border of NSW in Southern Queensland.
"Brian and Debbie Dare at the Glenlyon Tourist Park are our wonderful hosts for the forum, continuing their commitment to improving what we know about local fish and their habitats," Liz Baker said.
"The event is also supported by our partners in the Fish Habitat Network, the Freshwater Fish Stocking Association of Queensland."
The forum is funded by the Murray Darling Basin Authority through the Native Fish Strategy.
The Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park is located on Glenlyon Dam Road. It’s about 90km from Stanthorpe and 65km from Texas via the Stanthorpe-Texas Road, and 65km from Tenterfield via the Bruxner Hwy.
"This is free and a great opportunity to meet others who love fish and fishing," Liz Baker said.
The forum is an informal event, starting with breakfast at 8.00am and finishing before lunch.
