Title: Avon Royal Supreme III
Post by: mylestom on July 27, 2011, 06:15:01 PM
Have a Grice and Young Avon Royal Supreme III Centre Pine reel Spool Diameter 4 3/8" brand new in box probably from the 50 to 60's more like 60's. Paperwork, original box and never used. Been passed down to me.

What to do with it is the next question. As I have major back problems, utilising it will be out of the question.

Does anyone know who to contact that might be interested in that type of reel.

Regards

Trev

It's not a fly fishing reel as such.  It is a specialised trotting centre pin reel.  Trotting is a method of trout fishing quite popular with some traditional UK fishermen.  We'd call it float fishing.  When trotting, you allow you float with either bait or a fly attached, to drift downstream with the current.  The centrepin allows for slack line to be controlled.  I don't know of anyone who is into this style of fishing, or any collectors of these reels.  The Royal in the name means it is fitted with a drag, and the Avon  suggests it's a larger reel designed for the Avon River.  Good luck with finding a buyer, as it's an inheritance, I'd just sit it on the mantle piece and admire it.

Thanks for that, also believe it was a pretty popular Blackfish reel down south, lots of the old timers were pretty keen on them.

you could send me your address and I will send you the post and packing costs, I would give this piece of rubbish a good home  ;)

Alternatively you could put it on ebay, be prepared to post worldwide, and someone rich from England will pay good money for it.

To the right person this reel will make between £150 and £200
