Title: Brisbane River below Wivenhoe Dam
Post by: Novice on December 21, 2010, 12:58:05 PM
Last night the SEQwater boys let the gates rip on BigW . For most of last week except for Friday , Twin Bridges on the Brisbane river had a metre or so flowing over it . I reckon it has has risen another 6 or 7 metres just over night , where it is now at similar levels as in last October's release. Here's some pics.

Cheers,
Dave.

I had a look at Burton's Bridge last night, water about 1mt below the bridge.  I'll check it again tonight, as I heard they've closed it now.

:OMG I drove past twin Bridges on Sat and couldn't see the road closed signs they usually have at the turnoff, and the river was up but still along way below the bridge  :o

I heard on the news this morning that the amount of water being released per hour is greater than the hourly water consumption of the ENTIRE country...thats a shootload of liquid!!!!!

Read somewhere that the amount of water that is being released every day, yep every day is the amount of water consumption Brissy would use in 4 months.  :o

a few snippets from the media...

ABC News>>>> Enough water to supply south-east Queensland for four months will be released from Wivenhoe Dam, west of Brisbane, in one day.

Brisbane Times>>>> Current releases from Wivenhoe are approximately one-third of what would naturally come down the river without the dam in place to store flood water.
