Puzzle re HB lure identity
« on: March 25, 2011, 09:09:39 AM »
Couple of months ago found a slime covered lure floating at Hinze Dam and gave it to mate just starting to bass fish and with only a few lures, and it is proving to be great producer for him after we cleaned the slime away......... and now curious as to its identity, but no picture at the moment.

At first glance it looks very close to the diver RMG Scorpion 52 or 68, with top side of body similar, although the bib is a fraction bigger on the unknown.
 http://www.halcotackle.com/lures/34/scorpion-52

Underneath the scorpion tapers down like a narrow keel towards the rear end, the unknown one also has a similar keel but over the full length from belly to rear end.

Engraved on the bottom near the front trebles is RK60.

Anyone got a clue to the identity of this lure.

cheers RICHO

Richo, if you can furnish a couple of pics that will help me.
RK60 isn'y ringing any bells, but there a a number of makers with scorpion style lures.

I'm thinking it has some traits of a proto type Lively Lure of some desciption?

If you own any Lively Lures you can see the similarities, the bib and the tow point, along with the big round hook points on the lure and the inscription writting.

If Brad can't identify the lure maybe give Allan a ring at Lively Lures to see if there was any lures made and tested like the one your chasing an ID on?

Cheers Dave

Dave thanks for your thoughts mate.

However all the lively lures I have have a rounded underside, whereas the unknown one has quite a an obvious sharp keel full length and was why I leaned too a scorpion style as they are sharp underneath but only at the rear end.

And no problem if it remains unknown, unless it becomes a star producer for my mate on a regular basis ....then it becomes a different kettle of fish

I think I have it, It looks like an early River King by Don Lawson, the RK60 might be the clincher.
Here are my later ones including some bigger models
also close ups of my River King 60 showing same shape and writing

Cheers Brad

Brad certainly looks like you have struck gold with the ID, and the similarites are obvious when compared with your one.

Appreciate you making the effort on this mate mate
