SunWater welcomes release of Paradise Dam report

08 Oct 2013 - Sunwater

SunWater has welcomed the release of an independent review of the company’s management of Paradise Dam after a record flood event in early 2013, caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald.

SunWater Chief Executive, Peter Boettcher said the review, commissioned by Minister McArdle, highlights SunWater’s world class dam safety management systems and provides recommendations on the company’s management of Paradise Dam during flood events.

"This report was an opportunity for SunWater to work with the Queensland Government, their independent reviewer and the Dam Safety Regulator to review our dam management standards," he said.

"SunWater is pleased with the findings of the report and we have recently formulated a plan to implement the recommendations outlined in the report."

Mr Boettcher said the company is now focused on finalising Phase Two repairs to the dam that are on schedule for completion by November 2013.

"As part of a multi-phase program, we are on track to complete repairs to the dam’s dissipator sill prior to the upcoming wet season."

SunWater has commenced Phase Three of the Paradise Dam repair program that includes a comprehensive dam safety review carried out in accordance with Dam Safety Regulator Guidelines to investigate and inform the design of a long term solution, if required.
