Warm weather during the Christmas/New Year period saw large crowds of boat users, campers, fishers and other recreational users enjoy facilities at the region’s major water storages.
Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) Head of Customer Service & Operations Daniel Irwin said all GMW reserves at Cairn Curran had been busy. “Our staff reported high visitor numbers on and around the lake during the festive period,” Mr Irwin said.
“It was great to see most people doing the right thing by complying with boating safety signage and observing speed and zone restrictions.”
He reminded visitors that camp fires were prohibited on GMW land and urged people to not bring glass bottles to the storage and to take all their rubbish home.
“With the school holidays here and Australia Day just around the corner we’re expecting a steady flow of visitors to Cairn Curran over the next few weeks,” he said.
“As well as public boat ramps, there are free barbecue facilities at the Woolshed and Spillway reserves and plenty of great spots to swim. Swimmers should avoid diving into unknown waters and, of course, water users should never swim or operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol.
“By doing the right thing and looking out for each other, everyone can enjoy a safe and relaxing summer.”
